This hand made lampshade is carefully crafted from red gum with a perspex diffuser.

The shades are made from real Red Gum veneer with a natural silk-hemp mix fabric backing.
On the majority of lampshades made from natural materials, it is an unavoidable inconvenience that they must have a seam, which is usually placed towards the back in order that it can be ignored.

The maker, Roland Smith, made this lamp to challenge that orthodoxy. He knew he could not avoid having a seam, so he came up with a better idea – to make a playful and appealing feature out of it.

Size shown is 22 cm diameter, 15cm height.

Other wooden lamp shades generally use metal rings. Roland has come up with a design that uses wooden rings, usually to match the shade, although a contrast can also look good. The outer rings are connected to the lamp holder using brass rods soldered to a central metal ring.

Shown suspended from a ceiling, this lampshade works just as well on a table lamp. It comes with a central ring for an E27 lamp holder.

The light fitting is not included.
